Juice Works
Beat the heat with this refreshing watermelon drink!
Juiceworks Raya Rush has all the right ingredients to counter Malaysian's hot and humid weather. With watermelon as its main base, it blends with revitalizing drinks such as coconut water and crushed cranberries and then topped off with a low fat cooling vanilla ice cream sorbet which just gives off the maximum and ultimate cooling off drink. It had the right amount of ice as well, making it not super cold nor super sweet from the fruits. With it, you can even get your fix of vitamin C and fiber intake from the fruits. The new way of hydration is through Juiceworks. It is simply refreshing and with three sizes to choose from, there's a size for anyone. There is nothing that I don't like about it except towards the end where the ice would not melt, resulting in a clump of sorbet ice at the bottom which had no juice left. Otherwise, this deserves full stars for the taste and hydrating effects!
Tumix Chicken Stock
Tastes alright, but I prefer the one from Maggi
I normally use chicken stock to make soups because I do not have many people to serve, so chicken stock is the perfect solution for added flavour. I like that the stock does not clump up in the bag after not using it for a long time, though provided kept refrigerated. I prefer the one from Maggi because it has a richer, condensed taste than Tumix’s. Though the stock is not oily or too salty, the taste does not resemble much like authentic chicken stock to me.
Knife Classic Light Soy Sauce
Light and easy to use in any dish or cooking
I use this brand of soy sauce because it has the perfect balance of tanginess, sweetness and saltiness without the excessive taste of soybeans and fermentation like how some other conventional brands may have. The soy sauce is rather diluted in texture which makes it easy for stir-fries, dips and even as a condiment in your mashed potatoes. I really like the aroma and the bottle looks very nice and elegant too. Beware though, you have to place it in the fridge after opening as it will tend to grow mould if not refrigerated.
Buruh Refined Cooking Oil
Alright but not my favourite
I use this cooking oil for deep frying and it always comes out crispy and perfect. The tolerance for this oil to stand high heat is also very impressive as it does not tend to burn the food I am frying very quickly. I also like that the smell of the oil is not too strong and that it does not stain my kitchen walls and pans easily.
Ayam Brand Tomato Puree
Too thick and sour
When I need to use tomato puree, it normally means that I am cooking a large batch of a dish, either sauce for spaghetti, or for a pizza base. I don’t personally prefer this brand of tomato puree because it tastes rather to the sour side and it can also appear to be too thick for my liking. I normally would have to dilute the puree with water and a dash of sugar to neutralise the taste to make my dish more palatable.
Helang Cooking Oil
Staple in my household
I love using this brand of peanut oil because it is so aromatic and tasty for cooking. The aroma of the oil is refined and pleasant, with a nutty taste at the end. My mom would also use this to stir-fry, deep-fry and even marinate. The aroma and quality of this product has always been consistent and I’ve always been a loyal consumer of Helang Brand cooking oil myself up till now. I also like that the taste does not overpower and can also be used in baking cakes and cookies.
Haagen-Dazs Stickbar Salted Caramel
Tons of caramel, less on salted
The combination is well-known in any cooking. Salted caramel works extremely well with ice-cream and you know a brand like Haagen Dazs won’t let you down with their pioneer industry. Yet, the name itself makes you wonder how the ratio will be like. Personally, I like it to lean more on the saltier side because I want to taste the saltiness first, then the sweetness will take over. However, I didn’t get that kind of response from the ice-cream. It was sweet, then sweet. I was missing the salty aspect of it and since it’s called salted, there should be hints of them but I barely found them. Perhaps my tolerance for salty food is higher, but nonetheless, quite a letdown.
Colgate Plax Ice
Cools off quickly
It’s a revitalizing mouthwash that provides sensitive care to my teeth and gums, providing an overall guarded protection against bacteria from food. It helps rid of bacteria on the tongue and in the throat so that no ulcers can form. What’s best about this is the Iciness of the mouthwash makes me feel like I’m somewhere cold as the freshness of it is similar to chewing on ice, giving you a breath that’s like of North Pole, only without the candy. Great mouthwash to use.
Wall’s Solero Split
It’s time for some lime!
It was my very first encounter with lime flavored ice-cream despite being a fan of citrus. I can’t quite remember my first time trying it, probably around 7 years old, but I do remember I would have it for the next four days in a row. I have grown out of it now, but it tastes zesty as it is energizing. The subtle sourness of the lime complements well with the sweet vanilla ice-cream. It’s one of those classics Wall ice-cream that will be here for a very long time. Great product!
King’s Ice Cream Cones
Falls short
I’ve been a loyal brand of Aladdin Ice-cream Cones without ever comparing other brands. Now that I have tried King’s Cream Cones, it just doesn’t remind me of how ice-cream cones should taste like. But before I mention that, I must put a disclaimer that I may be bias and my taste buds have long known the taste of Aladdin, hence I am unable to compare precisely, but here are my takes on it. It is crunchy but lacks that aftertaste. It should be good to be eaten on it’s own but it needs help from ice-cream. Personally, the color looks more artificial too and has a slightly saltier batter. Nevertheless, it’s still a decent ice-cream cone without much to shout about.
King’s Potong Yam
Simply the best variant
Yam flavored ice-cream turned into an ice-cream potong? Yes please! What I disliked about conventional yam ice-cream was that it melts super quickly, but with King’s Potong, the taste lasts way longer and gets me addicted to it. This is one ice-cream I can eat over and over and over again, no matter the amount. The sweetness that comes from a yam is so different than that of sweet potatoes, so it is unique. With a vibrant purple color, and an everlasting goodness within, it’s no wonder I keep coming back for more!
NESTLÉ Fat Free Yogurt
Like a peach
There are tons of assortments to pick from, but my best-loved is the Peach Fat Free Yogurt. Inside, there are bits and pieces of peaches together with the yogurt and sometimes if your lucky, big chunks at once. The quality of the yogurt maintains it’s best, being silky but not dense. With so many to choose from, and each variant having real pieces of fruit inside together with live cultures, it’s easy on the digestive system. Being 99.8% fat free is a bonus for those conscious about fat intake!
AYAMAS Premium Chicken Frankfurter – Garlic
Strong garlic taste
For some, it may be too much, but I think it should have that strong garlic taste which amplifies the whole chicken frankfurter sausage. AYAMAS seals it airtight and packages them in sixes, but enough garlic in each of them, so that we can actually distinct them. Boiled, fried or baked are just one of the many ways I tried making with it and the best way to cook it is defrosting it first, parboil and then bake till golden an crispy. Be sure to let it thaw first since it has to be kept in the freezer, otherwise, you can have an undercook inside but cooked on the surface which is risking salmonella. In total, a plus product!
AYAMAS Popcorn Bites – Original
Not worth the money
Compare the price of a whole chicken to that of a few pieces of chicken meat where overall it’s covered by thick layers of frozen batter, and I have already made my choice; the whole chicken of course. Simply, the chicken to batter ratio is uneven. When I fried one batch at home, I tasted mostly batter and none of the chicken. Plus, it needed seasoning because it was tasteless and the chicken tasted old and dry. Not good at all.
Nestlé Neapolitan Ice Cream
Traditional flavours that’s legendary
If you have not seen Nestlé Neapolitan Ice Cream or tried it before, I suggest to do so now. Once you open up the lid, you see three flavors of ice-cream, Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry, three staples of flavors that made Nestle ice-cream brand flourish. Originally, it was all seperate but because of good feedback, they combined all three into everybody’s favorite now. It is creamy, vibrant in colors, silky and luscious to the lips. It is a steal when considering the price of one whole tub is that of only 5-7 Mcdonald’s ice-cream depending on the promotion.
Anlene Yogurt
Suitable for kids
Dubbed a breakfast champion and a good source of bone-building calcium, it is hard to reason why kids nowadays should consume yogurt rather than those highly carbonated and sugary drinks. Anlene Yogurt is specially formulated to provide to the health requirements of young kids, plus making it delicious at the same time. For me, the taste is very mild and doesn’t taste as rich as the other brands, but kids may prefer it that way. Good product and comes in twin pack for a more economical value.
Ramly Beef Burger
It’s like Krabby Patty, except it’s Ramly!
Boy oh boy, do I wish to steal the secret formula in making a Ramly burger patty. Except that it’s made available in all supemarkets already. The distinct beef Ramly burger that is used by street vendors are just heavenly. The smell and robust flavours that come out of that patty when it sizzles on the grill is equivalent to those made on Masterchef. But, this is the only frozen patty! It just tastes that good like a Burger Bakar. Easily comfort food that I make too at home.
Haagen-Dazs Summer Berries & Cream Ice Cream
It’s Summertime!
It’s always summer in Malaysia, and I have to cool off by having some ice-cream. Haagen-Dazs Summer Berries & Cream Ice Cream is just right for that, but also during horror movie nights. Something about the mix of berries just soothe my throat and allows me to calm down during these tense moments. It’s the perfect fit.
Haagen-Dazs Green Tea Ice Cream
Better than the powder forms
I don’t enjoy green tea too much beside it’s original tea leaves. The next thing I’ll have any green tea related to is green tea ice-cream. Dissimilar to the powder forms they add in macaroons or matcha powder, the creamy take of green tea feels easier down the throat and on the tongue. It is also a great way to introduce people to green tea without it tasting bitter as it complements well with the ice-cream base. A good starter, but not my favorite.
Biolane Gentle Shampoo
Gently down the stream...of my hairs!
The way this shampoo glides seamlessly through my hair without making it overly greasy or irreversibly dry after wash is commendable at the very least! I love the fragrance it emits; notes of mild floral and rainforest-like. Unlike some shampoo which consistency is mostly liquid, Biolane Gentle Shampoo keeps it at a good density so that it can easily be spread plus minimizing wastage as it is not completely liquid form. Being hypoallergenic and paraben-free just makes all my fears looser because I know I'm using the right kind of formulated shampoo. It may be suitable for kids, but it certainly got me hooked too. Another thing to note is the ergonomic structure of the bottle, having looked upside-down at one glance, but really the bottle's opening cap is at the bottom, allowing for easier flow of shampoo without needing to wring it or squeeze it with all my strength once it gets lesser in volume. But honestly, the most important thing to me and annoying is that sometimes the shampoo I apply gets into my eye and stings really bad. For this purpose, I usually want to avoid such a thing, but nevertheless I tried it with this, and graciously enough, it had not much of an effect which is why I see is great for kids and babies. If anything, having to avoid that painful eye sting is the saving grace of all shampoo showers especially if done very frequently. Enough is enough, I am in love with this!
