This little sucker works right out of the box.

This one most certainly does -- in spades, in fact. I took a trip from the top-floor, through the bottom floor, and (finally) to my car with one charge. This little sucker gets the job done (as silly as it may look...purple with its "Alien" genre feel...really?) However, at the end of the day, I don't care how it looks; I care how it performs. This device performs ideally (thus far!).

The convenience factor justifies my high rating: I can go from bedroom to bathroom to second bathroom to car in one trip. The canister is easily emptied once full, and work resumes.

But what vacuum cleaner (handheld or otherwise) doesn't work out of the box? I currently have a "dinosaur" vacuum (four years old) that is due a trip to the recycling center; my disappointment with my first purchase motivated my getting this handheld--my first venture into the purported "never-loses-suction" Dyson brand.However, so far, so...excellent.
