After the sixth month of your pregnancy, you will enter the third-trimester stage, which is (almost) nearing the final stage of your pregnancy. For most women, there will inevitably be lots of things to get done in preparation for the new arrival. How are you faring so far? If you’re not sure where to start, we’re here to help! Here’s a list of things we think you may want to see before the baby arrives.

Learn about labour and babycare
Although giving birth is natural and womankind have been doing it since the beginning of time, so to speak, there is really no harm in learning up on pain-management techniques while you still have time on your hands to do so. You can also get to know more about the pain medication options, should you want to use them, as well as birthing positions, relaxation techniques, and more. Attending a prenatal class will help you get enlightened on many new things that will benefit your partner and you, and provide you with added confidence for the future that awaits you as a new parent.

Get your hospital bag ready
You might as well get this ready and out of the way, for, after all, there is still much to do. While you still have time, sort out what you will need to pack for yourself and for your baby too. Items such as clothing, sanitary pads, panties, etc can be packed early. As the time to deliver comes nearer, you can add on more items that you think you may need. Don’t forget to pack some things for your new baby too, such as clothing to wear and come home, diapers, mittens, and booties, etc.

Sort out your maternity leave
Don’t leave the nitty-gritty of something as important as your maternity leave for the last minute, for as many women have experienced in the past, it’s best not to take anything for granted. When it comes to employers’ expectations and our own, you may be surprised to find that they may differ, not necessarily to your advantage. Not every establishment is the same, or have similar terms when it comes to a pregnant employee’s maternity leave. It’s always better to discuss your maternity leave thoroughly and clearly to ensure that your employer and you are on the same page on this.

Go shopping – it may be your last chance!
If there is anything on your shopping list of baby items that have not been ticked off yet, don’t waste any more time, especially if choosing your own items is important to you. This may be something as big as a baby crib, or a car seat, or just additional baby clothes, diapers, toiletries, etc. Last-minute shopping can be fun, as long as you still have the energy for it! So, get to it while you still can.

Prep your body
For as long as you still can, exercise lightly to keep your body limber and to avoid stiffness in your muscles. Try bouncing lightly while sitting on an exercise ball (pilates ball) a few times a day. It may be useful for relieving an aching back too and may bring some relief to discomfort or tightness on your hips too, especially when you’re sitting down. Bouncing on an exercise ball in this way may also prompt your baby to get into the correct position for birth.

Final checkups
Towards the end of your pregnancy, you’ll probably be asked to go in for your last few prenatal checkups more frequently. Keep in mind that anything can happen during this short time frame and these check-ups are not only essential for monitoring the health of your baby (and you), but also for your peace of mind. From knowing if a baby is breech to ensuring your blood pressure is at a healthy level, these appointments are absolutely essential.
