Prune Your Bush

During pregnancy, there is a certain percentage of women who don’t really care about their appearance because you think you are naturally glowing, which is absolutely true.

Then comes the other half of you who are still very conscious about how well groomed you are even while you are pregnant.

During pregnancy, there is a certain percentage of women who don’t really care about their appearance because you think you are naturally glowing, which is absolutely true. Then comes the other half of you who are still very conscious about how well groomed you are even while you are pregnant.

Secret is out: To “prune your bush” means to get rid of pubic hair

However, don’t get me wrong; I think being self conscious is a great thing because you want to look your best at all times. Some of you were probably used to having monthly manicures and pedicures, monthly massages as well as monthly waxing sessions.

After conception, there might be this little worry as to if waxing down under is safe or not. Now, this is where we come in as we tell you a little about waxing during your pregnancy and other ways to prune your bush.

As of today, there has been no evidence what so ever stating that waxing is unsafe, however it is probably not advisable. Now that you are pregnant, your skin is more likely to be more sensitive and itchy. This is basically because of all the hormonal changes going through your body.

Besides that, you might also have extra blood flowing through your skin, especially in your pubic area. This means that your bikini or Brazilian wax plus the regrowth of hair would be more painful than it was prior to your pregnancy.

If the main reason you want to do this is to keep your down under neat and tidy for birth, try not to worry about it. Honestly, once you get into labour, you wouldn’t care about what you look like and rest assured, no one else will either. Plus, your midwife would be totally focusing on your birth, not your beauty regime.

Removing some or all of your pubic hair by waxing could also be considered a little unhygienic because waxing could leave you with broken blood vessels, which could potentially be colonized by bacteria and become infected. However, don’t worry so much about it because the chances of this happening are very low.

Wouldn’t it get too wild?

To be honest, hair tends to grow more during pregnancy. This increased growth may appear on your tummy, face, underarms, in your pubic area as well as your legs.

Different women accept it differently; some look at it as a temporary change during pregnancy and are totally fine with it, where as some of you might feel horrible about yourselves and look at a waxing session as a way of pampering yourself. But hey, don’t say we didn’t give you a heads up!

DIY Waxing

If you plan on doing any waxing yourself, be sure to test the product on a small patch of skin first as the last thing you would want is to end up with a red and itchy pubic part if you are sensitive to the product.
Adding on, make sure you don’t wax any area that is irritated, sun burnt from that beach session you had over the weekend, has moles, warts or varicose veins on it because this would bring you a lot of pain not only while you are waxing but also after you are done; and this irritation could last for about a week.

Choosing a Waxing Salon

If you are going to opt for a waxing salon, be sure to find a quality, reputable waxing salon that provides you with professional treatment because you wouldn’t want your experience to be a nightmare.

Do a little research on the internet regarding waxing salons near you; one thing to keep in mind is that, professional treatment is not going to be cheap. That basically applies to anything and everything, right?

One waxing salon you could check out in the Klang Valley would be Strip Ministry of Waxing; they have trained staff and get Brazilian waxes done in only 15 minutes. However even as trained professionals, they should test their product on your skin first before getting it done completely. This is because some women might be allergic to certain things while others are not.

Choosing Your Level of Wax

Waxing your pubic hair comes in a few different levels; it really depends on what you are brave enough to try. Their description comes in the form of X’s just so you know. If you happen to be a first timer, it is best if you don’t head for too many X’s as the pain plus the sensitivity of your skin may not be able to bear it.

Below is a short list of what all the X’s mean for your own reference;

X – Bikini wax and clipping
XX – Bikini, clipping and bottom or better known as a G – string wax
XXX – Brazilian level, bikini and labia
XXXX – Everything off!

After the waxing is done, you are usually advised to have no hot baths for the next three days, no sauna sessions and basically no heat what so ever because this may cause serious irritation; the risks might be higher when you are pregnant.

Triple T

Tweezing, Threading & Trimming

If you plan on only removing a little amount of pubic hair, those would be considered small hair removal jobs – tweezing, threading and trimming are probably your best options.

Tweezing and threading might hurt a little bit, but of course not as much as waxing and would do the trick for a little hair removal. Tweezing can be done yourself; however threading should be done by a professional because there might be a little risk of cutting yourself.

Trimming would be another great option because this requires no pain at all and you get the job done; well, not entirely but you get the point! All these three methods require no chemical products at all and are totally safe during pregnancy.

Shaving

You could also try shaving because just like the triple T, this requires no chemicals and no pain at all. However, depending on how far ahead in your pregnancy; this might be a little challenge. So, you might want to get a little help from your partner.

Bottom line is; with hair or no hair, no one is going to love you any less. You have to do it because you truly want to and if it makes you feel more secure about yourself. After all, pregnancy is one of the most magical things around because it helps you accept change and find out new things about your body.
