Nurturing A Safer Future

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to purchase baby products knowing that they are safe and of great quality? That day will come sooner than we think thanks to Baby Product Association of Malaysia (BPAM).

The association introduced the BPAM code of practice standards to help ensure safer baby products in Malaysia during its 1st anniversary celebration yesterday at The Club, Bukit Utama, Bandar Utama. President of BPAM and a veteran in the industry, Gwei Tze-Co, said, “With the introduction of the BPAM standards, consumers can now be rest assured that the baby products available in the market, offered by the members of BPAM, are safe and secure for the usage of their infants and children, providing a peace of mind to the parents.”

Established in 2016, BPAM, a liaison between the main players in the country, aims to work closely with the Ministry to define and standardise the baby regulations to protect the consumers as well as business players in  the industry.

In line with their tagline “Nurturing Safer Future”, the set of standards that BPAM is introducing is extracted from existing world renowned standards that the industry players are referring in ensuring accuracy and reliability in the baby products industry. One of the references was SAI Global, formerly known as Standards Australia International Limited, a company that makes intelligent risk possible by helping organizations to proactively manage risk to achieve business excellence, growth, sustainability and ultimately, create trust.

BPAM also provides an umbrella of support and specialist services to its members, playing active roles to promote the baby and nursery products in Malaysia, as well as globally.

During the 1st anniversary celebration, there were also sharing and insights by Carol Fong from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Ang Kok Gei, a successful hardware store business owner, on how to leverage on e-commerce to grow the business to avoid being eliminated from retail marketplace. Carol Fong from focused on how brick and mortar can benefit from exponential growth of e-commerce.

BPAM also aims to build Malaysia as the hub for baby products in ASEAN, bringing together the baby product retailers, distributors, suppliers, and manufactures into Malaysia to share insights and conduct discussion for the growth of the industry, while helping to promote Malaysia as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) destination.

Some 200 participating members and attendees were gathered at The Club to witness the first celebration of the Association, held in conjunction with the Battle of the Stars exhibition by the participating members. This is the second trade exhibition apart from the previous Baby Conference done in October 2016. To date, BPAM has close to 30 members with about 100 brands.
