Winner of BabyTalk’s awards for Early Literacy Program and Education Licensing Program, the Victoria Readers is a system designed to assist parents and teachers who wish to teach young children how to read English fluently.
The Victoria Readers was created by Ms Victoria Wong Tsae Ling, an English language teacher with more then 25 years of teaching experience in both the Comprehensive Primary and Secondary Levels. She used her experience to develop a systematic approach to phonics which children could use to develop their reading skills.
Originally conceived into 1980 to help a 5 year old girl to read, this system has benefited numerous children throughout the years. In fact, the system has been so successful that children from English speaking backgrounds could read with ease in less then 55 lessons.
Receiving financial backing from grateful parents, Ms. Wong first published 8 phonic books and an alphabetical book with a jigsaw puzzle. She has since gone on to produce more books, ensuring the success of her system.
The Victoria Readers system will provide a lot of benefit for:
- Parents who are concerned with their children’s reading skills
- Teachers who wish to learn and master this unique system for the benefit of their students
Bear in mind that the Lesson Notes provided in the Manual are only meant as a guide. You will find that as the lessons progress the children usually pick up speed and may require less then 55 lessons. However, children from non-English backgrounds may need frequent revisions. Whatever their age or mental ability you will find that consistence and patience in following the system closely will give the children the skills they require in order to read fluently.
