Is Your Neck Giving Away Your Age? Four Ways to Regain an Elegant & Youthful Neck

Do you often neglect your neck area during your skincare routine? Are you fed up of trying to conceal your neck because it doesn’t quite match up to your facial skin? Do you constantly find yourself wincing at how dry and wrinkled the skin on your neck seems to be? If you answered ‘yes’ to one or more of these questions, this article is for you, and by the time you’re done, we hope you’ll be inspired enough to make a change and feel proud of your neck instead of being ashamed of it. You would have known by now that necks don’t lie. If you have been neglecting that part of your body and giving it a miss during your daily beauty regime, it’s bound to tell on you via dry, thin and wrinkly skin. Why let it get that way in the first place? All it takes is a little discipline, especially if you’re used to not showing any TLC to it all this time. Like anything else in life, it has to become a habit and for that to happen, you’ll have to start now and don’t stop till you glow like a goddess!

First and foremost, from today onward, start to be more mindful of your neck. Take a good, hard look in the mirror now and really notice it, claim it and make a promise to take better care of it. Accept the fact that it is part of you and needs to be cared for, loved and nurtured with good skin care practices. It deserves to look good!

The 3 don’ts of neck care if you are really serious about this.

  • Rubbing too hard or tugging at your skin during your skincare regime
  • Tilting your head to one side with your handphone jammed between your cheek and shoulder!
  • Applying perfume or any other heavily-scented product on the neck, for it only promotes dryness – not quite the look you’re after, is it?

Here are FOUR simple yet effective ways to take care of your neck and start showing it off as one of your elegant beauty assets!

The neck is more prone to dryness, wrinkles and sagging compared to your face. It produces only one-third of sebaceous oil, and also stores very little collagen. Hence, it makes sense that richer, oil-based skincare will work best. It would be good to pick out a cleanser, exfoliant, toner, moisturiser and serum created specifically for the neck area. Want the best result? Be diligent about this, twice daily.

  • Lift and drop your shoulders several times.
  • Tilt your head to one side and hold that position for a few seconds. Repeat the same, to the other side. Perform a few repetitions of this, several times a day.
  • Drop your chin as close to your chest as possible. Hold for several seconds.
  • Drop your head as far back as possible. Hold for several seconds.

The above are examples of simple exercises that will help keep the skin on your neck supple and resilient.

For simple, effective massages, standby a good neck cream and lift up your chin slightly. Using your index, middle, and ring fingers, stroke your neck from the collarbone up to your chin in firm, sweeping movements. Do this each day, but remember, gentle is the keyword here, or else you’ll be exposing your neck skin to vulnerability instead of resilience and beauty.

Sleeping on your back is actually the best way to avoid getting the skin on your neck pulled or tugged on. Your neck has very little collagen to begin with, so it may not recover from skin tensions (of being tugged and pulled while you sleep) quite as well as your face. Make no mistake about this: your sleeping posture counts when you are trying to regain a more youthful and graceful looking neck.
