Of course there are a lot of hair masks to be found in the stores, but have you ever tried to make one yourself? It is way more fun to experiment with products from your own kitchen. Besides, you know what you are putting into the mask, which means no damaging chemical products!

Thyme mask against dandruff
Heat 500ml water and add 8 tablespoons of dried thyme. Boil it for 10 minutes and then let it cool down. Strain it off before you apply it to your washed, damp hair. If you catch the used water in a bowl, you can easily reuse it until your hair and scalp are totally covered. You don’t have to rinse or wash it off after applying.
Super moisturising oil treatment
It’s an easy way to give your hair and scalp a moisture-boost. Choose olive oil for its high nutrition, but you can also use coconut, almond or castor oil. Warm this oil and wet your hair a little. Then massage the oil in your hair and your scalp, cover it with a warm, damp towel and leave it for at least 30 minutes. If you want a more intense nutrition, you can mix the oil with warm water (ratio 50:50), cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for the night. In the morning, wash your hair with mild natural shampoo and a conditioner. Use lukewarm water to rinse.
Avocado mask for dry hair
Mash one overipe avocado and mix it with two tablespoons of olive oil until you have a smooth mixture. For extra hydration and shine you can also add one egg yolk or a tablespoon honey. Apply the mask on wet hair, massage it on your scalp and spread it over your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash your hair with lukewarm water, a gentle shampoo and conditioner.
Banana mask for damaged hair
Mix one big banana with two tablespoons of honey. Make sure the banana is totally mashed, otherwise you’ll find small lumps of fruit in your hair. Massage the mixture on your scalp and apply it on your hair. Leave it for 30-45 minutes, covered in a shower cap. Afterwards rinse with lukewarm water and wash your hair with a gentle shampoo and use a conditioner.
Lemon mask for oily hair
Mix 50 gram yogurt with one tablespoon of lemon juice and apply it on your hair. Massage it on your scalp, so the lemon gets a chance to absorb the oil on your head. Cover it with a shower cap and leave it for 45 minutes. Now you can rinse it with lukewarm or cold water and wash your hair with a gentle shampoo and conditioner.
