Acne Scar Treatment
Tips for Reducing Appearance of Acne Scars
What if you have already suffered from acne and the scars remain to plague you? You could certainly take measures to prevent future breakouts but at the same time, minimize the damage that the acne has left on you.
1. Get your acne in check
It is important to control your current acne condition to prevent further outbreaks that create new blemishes. Follow the basic skin care regimen: regular exercise, adequate water intake and sleep, daily cleansing, toning and moisturising. If all these do not help, talk to your dermatologist and get medication or cream to help you keep your condition under control.
2. Use sunscreen
Using sunscreen could help you to reduce acne scars as faithful usage can help to prevent your acne scars from getting darker. The scars will eventually fade away. Look for moisturizers with SPF protection of 15 or higher.
3. Use natural remedies
Some says that raw potatoes, cucumber or tomato can reduce acne scarring. Rub thin slices of these vegetables in a circular motion on the scars and allow the juice to stay for 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Do this several times a week. You could also dab aloe vera, lemon, lime juice, tea tree oil, olive, lavender, rose hip seed oil, rosewater, vinegar, sandalwood powder paste on your skin for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing it off;.
There are also a few organic or natural acne care products such as facial cleansers, moisturiser and toners that you can try out. Burt’s Bees, Thursday Plantation, Himalaya, Dr. Haushchka and Yves Rocher are just some of them.
4. Use non-prescription drugs
You can try using chemical peels that contain salicylic acids or alpha hydroxyl acids. These contain corticosteroids or antihistamines which can help to reduce inflammation and itching of fresh pimples. Bleaching creams are also a good idea as they contain hydroquinone which slows down the production of melanin. However, apply it only on the scars to avoid lightening the surrounding skin. There are also microdermabrasion kits which supposedly work similarly to professionally-administered microdermabrasion treatments by sloughing off layers of the skin.
Acne is part and parcel of the lives of almost everyone. Breakouts and scarring is more manageable if you know how to care for your skin and well-being.
