The Taiwan Health & Wellness Hub (THWH), established by TAITRA under the commission of the International Trade Administration (TITA), Ministry of Economic Affairs, officially opened today at Menara MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur. This initiative is designed to deepen Taiwan-Malaysia cooperation in smart healthcare, biotechnology, and medical services, showcasing Taiwan’s strength as a global health innovation leader.
At the launch ceremony, Mr. Simon Wang, President & CEO of TAITRA, remarked, “Malaysia is one of Taiwan’s closest and most understanding neighbours. We have long enjoyed strong trade ties, mutual investments, and vibrant cultural exchanges. The launch of the Taiwan Health & Wellness Hub marks a new chapter in Taiwan-Malaysia cooperation — enabling deeper business engagement, strategic partnerships, and shared growth across ASEAN and beyond.”
Mr. Johari Abu Kasim, President of PERANTIM, commended the initiative, saying, “The establishment of this Hub is a testament to the deep trust and partnership between Taiwan and Malaysia in the health industry. It serves as an exceptional platform for Malaysia to access cutting-edge medical technologies and innovations. Strategically aligned with Taiwan’s “In Region, For Region” initiative, the Hub integrates medical expertise, AI technologies, and professional resources to position Taiwan as a reliable and forward-looking global health brand.
Located on Level 3 of Menara MATRADE, the Taiwan Health & Wellness Hub features an exhibition of advanced medical and wellness solutions from Taiwan. Highlights include:
- Acer Medical’s award-winning AI-assisted screening system VeriSee DR, designed to swiftly detect diabetic retinopathy. The system has earned Taiwan Excellence recognition and is certified in both Malaysia and Indonesia.
- NKFG Corp’s UVC LED disinfection modules, developed using Nobel Prize-winning technology and in-house sterilisation chips — effective in combating COVID-19.
- AnesTek’s high-resolution video laryngoscope systems, which enhance safety during intubation and emergency medical care.
- China Medical University Hospital’s award-winning VR acupuncture training system — an innovative blend of traditional Chinese medicine and virtual reality, which received the 2024 National Innovation Excellence Award.
In addition to its exhibition function, the Hub has appointed a dedicated project manager to provide comprehensive, one-stop services. These include market analysis, buyer engagement, brand promotion, and professional consultation — enabling Malaysian businesses to better understand and connect with the showcased Taiwanese solutions for long-term collaboration.
Mr. James Chang, Director of the Economic Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, highlighted that Malaysia’s rising health awareness, its medical tourism appeal, and government policy support make it a strategic gateway into the ASEAN market. Taiwan’s global leadership in smart medical technology and biotech R&D complements Malaysia’s ambitions, with Taiwanese medical exports to Malaysia seeing an annual growth rate of 15%. As Malaysia lists health as a core pillar under its 12th Malaysia Plan, its healthcare market is expected to exceed USD 30 billion by 2027. The Taiwan Health & Wellness Hub will focus on Taiwan’s strengths in AI diagnostics, smart medical devices, nutraceuticals, and aesthetic medicine — driving R&D, technology transfer, and cross-border investment to strengthen the Taiwan-Malaysia value chain and support Taiwan’s global health ambitions.
