Petrosains Turns 20

Petrosains, The Discovery Centre, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm for PETRONAS that anchors on the pillar of education, kicked off its 20^th year anniversary celebration with a week-long celebration at its main centre in Suria KLCC. The celebration, which is held from 25 until 31 March 2019, was officially opened to the public with a rousing and colourful welcome to visitors on the morning of the anniversary day on 25 March 2019 by Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains, Fedora Zulkifli and Petrosains leadership team.

Visitors thronged Petrosains’ doors at 9.30am to join in the celebration and were surprised by the special treat of free admission to Petrosains for all visitors on the first day.  The first twenty families were also presented with a bag of Petrosains 20th anniversary merchandise as a special token for being the first 20 visitors to come to Petrosains on their 20th anniversary.  By late afternoon, the visiting slots to Petrosains were already full and close to 3,000 visitors came for the celebration. The celebration was also extended to Petrosains Playsmarts in Kuantan, Johor Baharu and Kota Kinabalu.

The celebration which coincides with the March school holidays, is a perfect time for a fun family day out for visitors.  Besides the visit to the centre, visitors were treated to various fun and exciting celebration activities inside the centre as well as at ‘The Galleria’ area of Petrosains. Among the activities during the week-long celebration include new science shows and workshops such as workshops on 3D elements, Robotics and Internet of Things (IoT), special performances, science talks from Malaysia’s Young Scientist Network, after hours engagement session, flash mobs, science and magical busking, Petrosains trivias, lucky draws, photo booths and many more.

For visitors coming from 23 to 31 March 2019, they will receive a special 20 percent discount on all Petrosains admission tickets. With the purchase of admission tickets during the week, visitors can visit the main centre and also participate in all activities, workshops and talks at the Galleria at no extra cost.  Petrosains’ gift shop, Xplorasi will also be having their 20^th anniversary sale.

According to Fedora Zulkifli, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains “The celebration was organized as a way to thank all those who have supported us throughout the years – our visitors, partners and collaborators from the government and the relevant agencies, the corporates, academia, industry players, the media and our staff.  Because of the support that we received, we were able to grow from a science discovery centre to a globally recognized institution that provides informal learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and regarded as an important supporting component in the nation’s education landscape.”

She added “As the CSR platform of PETRONAS in the pillar of education, we hope to continue delivering more creative and impactful learning experiences that will inspire people, especially the younger generation, in STEM. We also look forward to more partnerships and collaboration with other parties for the common purpose of strengthening the support towards the national education agenda in the learning of STEM.   Beyond 2019, we aspire to bring Petrosains to the next level and be a world class global science centre through positive customer experiences and engagements, impactful educational programmes and upgraded exhibits.”

Since opening its doors on 25 March 1999, Petrosains has managed to reach millions of people through various platforms such as in reach and outreach programmes, its travelling exhibitions Petrosains DinoTrek 2 and PETRONAS PlaySmart, community events such as the Petrosains Science Festival as well as its signature competitions, the Petrosains Science Show Competition and Petrosains Robotics Challenge.

Petrosains’ 20^th year anniversary celebration will be held throughout the year at its main centre in Suria KLCC as well as its satellite centres, Petrosains PlaySmart in Kuantan, Johor Baharu and Kota Kinabalu.
