Columbia Asia Hospital

In recognition of Cancer Survivors Month, Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Rimau (CAH-BR) proudly announces a new partnership with the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This significant collaboration is aimed at providing emotional and moral support to cancer patients at the CAH-BR cancer center. The volunteers, who are themselves cancer survivors, will connect with patients to offer their support and share their experiences.

The collaborative effort between CAH-BR and BCWA is set to continue for three years, with volunteers conducting one-on-one support sessions tailored to meet the needs of each patient. These sessions, which can range from informal chats to structured counseling, are designed to help patients thrive beyond their diagnosis. Consent from patients’ families will be obtained to ensure a supportive and comfortable environment.

The MOU signing ceremony was graced by the Selangor State Health & Environment Exco, YB Puan Jamaliah Jamaluddin. In her address, she highlighted the global impact of cancer and the importance of preventive measures and early detection. “Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, with an estimated 10 million deaths each year. Around 70% of these deaths occur in low- to middle-income countries. Remarkably, over 40% of cancer-related deaths can be prevented through lifestyle changes and early detection,” she stated. “Today, as we celebrate Cancer Survivors Day, we honor those who have fought and survived cancer, acknowledging their resilience and strength.”

On behalf of Columbia Asia, CAH-BR Regional CEO, Ms. Lee Hui Chuen, mentioned how inspiring breast cancer survivors are and how their courage and resilience are truly motivational. “Since launching our Cancer Center in 2022, we have remained committed to advancing cancer advocacy and support,” she said further.

”The signing of this MOU marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to support cancer patients. This partnership aligns with our mission to provide comprehensive care and support to those affected by cancer.”

Also present at the event was Group CEO/MD of Columbia Asia, Dr Chan Boon Kheng; President of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia, Miss Kim Lim; Kanwork Cancer Society representatives, as well as cancer survivors from different backgrounds.
