KUALA LUMPUR, 18 March 2019 – Colgate-Palmolive Malaysia (Colgate) and the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) continue their annual partnership through an initiative to highlight healthy dental habits in conjunction with Oral Health Month 2019, taking place in March each year. This year’s theme – ‘Whole Mouth Health’ – expounds the importance of a holistic oral health and to achieve its objective, Colgate has upped its effort to spread education among Malaysians through a campaign of the same name.

According to the National Oral Health Survey in 2010, nine out of 10 Malaysian adults have experienced periodontal disease and dental caries, while a staggering 75 per cent are unaware of the need to maintain oral hygiene[1]. Colgate’s ‘Whole Mouth Health’ campaign endeavours to turn the ignorance into awareness about the importance of oral hygiene among Malaysians.

Amanda Klemm, Marketing Director of Colgate-Palmolive South ASEAN Hub said: “Statistics have shown that 94 per cent of adults needed oral hygiene advice[2]. As a trusted oral care partner for Malaysians, Colgate hopes to address that and is honoured to partner with the Malaysian Dental Association once more to educate and share pertinent information about oral care.”

Added Dr Leong Kei Joe, President-Elect of the Malaysian Dental Association: “Many Malaysians today over-consume sugar which affects one’s overall oral health, and so it is important to remember that prevention is better than cure. Fortunately, hope is not lost as there are preventive measures to take to maintain oral hygiene.”

One core topic deliberated during the forum was on protective measures to help Malaysians think about oral care in a more holistic manner.

“Drawing back to the theme of ‘Whole Mouth Health’, Colgate and the MDA implore Malaysians to see oral care beyond just teeth, and instead consider tongue, cheeks and gum too to form a holistic oral health care. In today’s technological advancements in dentistry, there are many methods that will help protect the whole mouth from bacteria, food stains and dental plaque,” Klemm elaborated.

560 Dental Clinics Open Door for Free Check-ups

Using the Oral Health Month 2019 as a platform to intensify its efforts to educate Malaysians behind the meaning of a holistic oral health approach, Colgate has also increased Malaysians’ accessibility to dental services, which includes free dental check-ups at 560 private participating dental clinics nationwide.

Colgate believes that prevention is better than cure and through the campaign encourages self-dental care and emphasises the importance of a twice-yearly dentist visit to ensure teeth stay cleaner, last longer and prevent dental problem and diseases from developing.

In conjunction with Oral Health Month 2019, Colgate introduces the new Colgate Total toothpaste at the forum. Formulated with Dual-Zinc to actively fight bacteria and Arginine to enhance the delivery of Dual-Zinc throughout the entire mouth, the Colgate Total toothpaste offers whole mouth care in one tube. It is available in six variants and retails for RM12.99 for 150g and RM22.99 for 150g twin pack. The new Colgate Total toothpaste is available in retail stores and pharmacies nationwide.
