Hugh Jackman strongly recommends everyone to use sunscreen after having removed another skin cancer growth on his nose a few months ago. According to ABC Australia, it was his fifth known basal cell carcinoma removal since 2013.

He posted a post-op photo on his Instagram account saying, “An example of what happens when you don’t wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless.”
“PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups,” was the underlying message of the Wolverine star who goes for check-ups every three months and has launched a series of sunscreens for children.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer in Caucasians, Hispanics, Chinese and Japanese. It also occurs in 70 to 90 percent of sun-exposed skin in Asians, underlining the need for protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Here are some important facts on how you can use sunscreen effectively to help prevent skin cancer and tumours:
  1. Use sunscreens with a sun protection variable (SPF) of 30 or higher.
  2. Use sunscreen even on cloudy days since UV rays are still present.
  3. A palmful of sunscreen is adequate to cover the face, neck, arms and legs of an average sized adult. Of course, the thicker the application, the greater the protection.
  4. Re-apply every 2 hours or so if you are outdoors to ensure constant coverage.
