Making Purchases
Why carry cash when you can easily make cashless transactions with HSBC Visa Debit Cards? HSBC Visa Debit Cards, which are internationally accepted, allows you to conduct retail purchases in-store using the available funds in your HSBC account(s) that are linked to the HSBC Visa Debit Card. It’s definitely a safer and more secure way of making payment at local and overseas retail stores. This is because HSBC Visa Debit Cards come with an embedded chip which makes it harder to copy or alter, thus helping to protect personal information and to keep the card secure.
HSBC Visa Debit Cards consist of contactless functionality (Visa payWave). It is a fast, easy and convenient way to pay and lets you make everyday purchases quickly and safely with just a tap of your contactless-enabled card wherever you see the universal contactless symbol.
There is a daily default maximum limit of RM500 for contactless transactions (Visa payWave) and this is part of your daily purchase limit. You have the option to reduce this contactless transaction limit or to turn it off completely. Note that every transaction below RM250 can be paid via the contactless function and once the daily maximum default limit of RM500 for contactless transactions has been reached, you will not be able to further use Visa payWave on that day and will have to swipe their your debit card as normal. Please visit the nearest HSBC branch if you need to reduce your daily limit for contactless transaction or turn off contactless functionality for Visa payWave on your debit card.
When making an in-store purchase, look for the Visa logo, allow the merchant to insert your HSBC Visa Debit Card into their POS (Point of Sale) terminal and then enter your 6-digit PIN number.
You can also make purchases online, by phone, via mail-order and pay bills using your HSBC Visa Debit Card.
Payment Platform
Your HSBC Visa Debit Card is supported by 2 payment networks (i) MyDebit which only applies within Malaysia, and (ii) Visa which allows your card to be accepted both overseas and in Malaysia. With these 2 payment networks, there are more retail outlets that will accept your Debit Card for payment in Malaysia and overseas.
When using your HSBC Visa Debit Card at retailers in Malaysia, a retailer may choose to accept and process the payment on your card using either MyDebit or Visa. This is the retailerâs choice and allows the retailer to process the payment via their chosen Debit Card network. Please be aware that you are not able to request the retailer to change their chosen Debit Card network.

Withdrawing Cash at ATMs
You can withdraw cash at any HSBC ATM and ATMs that display the MEPS, HOUSe and Visa PLUS logos. Just insert your card and enter your card PIN to complete the withdrawal.
