The First-Timer’s Pregnancy Test Guide With Clearblue

The winner of 100Comment’s Product Excellence Awards 2018, Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test With Conception Indicator delivers clear, accurate results every time.

It can be an agonising wait to confirm if you’re pregnant. But it doesn’t have to be that way. If you are still a first-timer and cannot figure out on how to take a pregnancy test, we are here to teach you. So, before you head to the pharmacy to purchase Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test With Conception Indicator, here’s what you need to know about how to use it effectively.

How does it work?

Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test With Conception Indicator can be purchased over the counter in any pharmacy. It works by detecting the pregnancy hormones in your urine that the body produces after an embryo is implanted, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). If hCG is detected, the result will be displayed as “Pregnant”.

It is the most advanced home pregnancy test to date since it is able to estimate how many weeks along you are i.e., 1–2 weeks, 2–3 weeks and 3+ weeks since conception.

When to take a pregnancy test?

While it is possible to test for pregnancy five to six days before your period is expected to arrive, you may not see a positive result that early on. There’s also the risk of a false positive result where the hormone is secreted but the pregnancy did not take. Another con for testing too early is a false negative when you are actually pregnant. So the closer to the day of your expected period, the more accurate the result will be. We recommend that you test on the day you expect your period or a day after you miss it. You can wait a week after your missed period for the most accurate results.

How to take a pregnancy test?

Before the test

Always read the instructions carefully on the pregnancy test before doing it. If you are testing early, be sure to use the first urine of the day for an accurate Weeks indicator result. If you are testing from the day of your expected period, you can test any time of the day.

Avoid drinking too much liquid prior to the test. Remove the test stick from the wrapper and remove the blue cap. Use the test immediately after opening.

Doing the test

Once you have read the instructions, sit on the toilet and urinate on the testing stick with the absorbent tip pointing downwards for 5 seconds only. Make sure that you do not get the rest of the digital pregnancy test stick wet. You may also dip the absorbent tip into your urine sample collected in a clean, dry container for 20 seconds only. Replace the cap and lay the digital test stick flat while waiting for the results. If you’re holding the pregnancy test stick, keep the tip pointing downwards. Remember to never hold the test stick with the absorbent tip pointing upwards throughout the test.

Wait for 3 minutes

The very first home pregnancy test in 1976 requires an agonising wait of two hours. With Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test With Conception Indicator, it only takes 3 minutes. An hour glass ‘wait’ symbol will flash to show that the test is working. Your result will appear when the wait symbol stops flashing.

Interpret the results

Once three minutes have passed, check the test stick for results. If you see the ‘Pregnant’ result appearing before the Weeks Indicator result, wait till the hourglass stops flashing to see your Weeks Indicator result. Your result will be displayed for about 24 hours.

Congratulations!

If you get a “Pregnant” result with weeks indicated, congratulations, you’re pregnant! With your estimated due date conveniently calculated for you, contact your gynaecologist to arrange for a blood test to confirm the results and schedule for your first prenatal appointment. Most importantly, break the good news to your partner!
